Copper wire around your plant keeps slugs away they get a little shock, just like your tougne touching a positive and negative on a little square battery, they won't cross it

I've tried many markers like the plastic sour cream, popsicle sticks etc but any kind I used fades in wks to a month or 2 at longest. Anyone have a long lasting marker suggestion?

I used the toilet paper tube to start peas, they were so thin and never got strong stems and then died after getting about 8-10 inches tall

Some people put collars around young plants to protect from cutworms. I find that various caterpillars will manage to get to a plant, anyway, and will munch on it at night and then burrow into the soil to hide during the day. If you suspect that this is happening, fill the collar with water and let it seep into the soil. If there is a caterpillar there, it will come to the surface to keep from drowning, and you can then remove it. Filling these collars with water is also a handy way to water plants.

My favorite earwig trap—tuna can (leave label on!) w/ one or two Tbls oil, any kind. Add 1 drop soy sauce in center of oil. Amazing how well it works!

I usually end up with a lot of single socks…I use old stained up single socks at the bottom of my pots instead of sponges!

1:49 I'm still wondering if this method for covering plants, isn't the sun radiation make the plastic contaminate the soil or maybe the plant from when is moist in there? For roses or other plants that are nod for eating is ok I suppose, but for the ones that we eat I'm just asking from your experience. Ikn they won't be in the summer, but still there will be many sunny days even in spring or winter.

    Thanks.

I've been using egg cartons (the typical styrofoam) to start my seeds in. I try not to let my seedlings stay in those too long though, as they can attempt digging their roots into the styrofoam once they've reached the bottom.

When we have bananas, I toss the peels into a container of water. Let this water age for a couple of days with the peels. This water is awesome for all of my plants, especially my flowering plants.
