Great raised garden bed

4 out of 5 stars

Great raised garden bed
I am excited to get this planter filled with plants! It will be great not having to bend over to tend a garden. The instructions were terrible (pictures only), so it took a good 60-90 minutes to assemble after a few mistakes. This is why I didn’t give it 5 stars. This is not a 1-person job. We were also missing 3 nuts in the nuts & bolts package. However, we got it together and it seems sturdy. For anyone considering this, keep in mind the volume of soil and “fill” you will need. It is a LOT! If you try to fill it all the way with soil you’ll spend a fortune. Pack the bottom half (at least) with cardboard or yard debris (I did yard debris) and fill in gaps with cheap sand. Then put quality soil the remaining depth. I am growing herbs and fruit/vegetable plants. They only need 12-16” of soil for their roots. I filled in my planter with 1800 pounds of sand from Lowe’s ($80). The last 12 inches will be high quality organic compost with worm casts.

We bought 4 units, 8'x4'x3' they are tall which is nice for us older folks. The visual is appealing, which surprised me. the down side would be you need 2 people to put together being the depth of the units. But that shouldn't stop you from purchasing the planters, 2 people is good for the social aspect and help. we will fill them with organic debris and a few kinds of soils. Being the depth they will hold quite a bit of soil product. Looking forward to see how they handle the filling up process, hoping they don't bow from weight.

I have given these a 4 star rating which could go up or down depending upon how they are once filled. These beds are difficult to build, either one person or two person. And they are flimsy, easier to bend, which makes it a little hard to move and not bend or warp when moving. I am hopeful that once filled, these are what they are touted to be–a great raised bed that will last a long time. I know understand why they have green or black sided beds. I think that ALL beds should be a NON shiny surface as the silver, which is so pretty and which i bought 8 of, are so shiny that I am blinded going into the backyard. And I only have 3 that have been built. I tried building one and only finished 1/2 of it. I am disabled and so hired someone to build. He finished mine and built another and refused to build anymore. I hired someone else, and there were two of them and they took 2 hours to build one, never to return to build another. So, these beds BETTER be fantastic for the effort they are costing me to have them.

I ordered three of the 8’x3’ beds. Each took about two hours to put together. There was no missing hardware and actually had some left over. It definitely takes two people to put them together and put in place. They do take a lot of soil to fill. I suggest having it brought in instead of buying by the bag. The bottoms were filled with about a foot of coarse sand, then about a foot and a half if of top soil and then topped off with Miracle Grow garden soil. These replaced old raised beds that were less than a foot high. I’m very happy with my purchase.

My experience with this raised bed garden is not good. I ordered a bed that was supposed to be 8ft. it was not! That defeated the purpose of what I was trying to do. I can't even tell you how many bolts and screws were missing, but definitely not enough to put it together, there were so many missing. This is THE most flimsy, thin, and easy to dint metal I've ever worked with. To me it's not worth the inconvenience. The directions were not helpful to me, I had to go find a video of someone else who bought one just to know how to put it together. If I could do it all over again, I would not buy this product. In fact, I hate I even came across this company.

Assembly is not too terribly bad, there are a lot of screws and nuts to put on but once you get a "system" it is not terrible. The sheet metal is quite flimsy but once together it is strong enough. The biggest complaints are why in the heck did they use square nuts, put standard nuts in the kit so you can use a socket and the screws are EXTREMELY soft and will strip if you look at them too hard, so be sure to use a screwdriver that fits it properly because it will strip out way to easily.

There are not many options if any at all that are 3' tall (although the dimensions are actually a bit less than advertised). It is nice to have a few tall beds like this to save your back a bit.

I bought two of these, it took two people 4 hours to put the first one together. There are 15 trillion bolts and nuts that have to be inserted and fastened, and one cannot do this alone. The material is very flimsy at first glance, but as the parts go together, it becomes surprisingly stable.
If you put it onto a flat surface (like a patio for example) , it should look pretty good. Mine resides on an uneven meadow and of course one corner is visibly lower – can't be fixed at this point.
Putting a box together from 2X12 lumber would have been a lot quicker and easier, and sturdier.
All in all, I'm happy with it though, but I dread having to put the 2nd one together next.

Real buyer/user 03/25/2025. We're both 60ish getting tired of being on our knees. We purchased this ! I took my time with the assembly and still got it done in just hours. I did it by myself with no problems.. two makes it much easier..
The wife and I picked it up and moved it 20 yards to it's resting spot. I'd say it's 30-40 lbs.min.
Now- This is built and made with Quality!! EASY Assembly. Very sturdy.. Holds 10,000 pounds/5-cu yds dirt. Do not buy bags of dirt. get it hauled in.Very sturdy and impressive. Weeding/if any.. will be quite easy. Great seller .. Fast shipping..
I would most definitely recommend this. I may get another next year. Much easier than I had thought.
Once put together there are no sharp edges.. All good quality- heavy gauge- Galvanized steel.
Looking to be vegy-ing this summer here in Western ILLINOIS , Chris G.
